AVATAR

I waited for years to watch a glimpse of another masterpiece by the director of “Titanic”, “Terminator” and “Aliens”, James Cameron after more than ten years returns with “AVATAR”, a film that will change the history of cinema, the way we see movies and the technology of movie making.

James has spent years preparing the technology to make his imagination a reality, using a virtual camera specially designed to capture CGI and live action at the same moment, which is not the old school way in capturing live action with a green background screen and adding the CGI effects later during the post-production process, which definitely will add to the now well known 3D a new dimension.

Yesterday I had the chance to watch a HD trailer for the upcoming movie and what an experience. Some people around the world had the opportunity to get free tickets on AVATAR Day which was the 21 of August 2009, and watch 16 minutes of the movie in 3D, which by the way was a unique method for a movie advertisement, and all agree the trailer does not give justice to the fantastic experience they had.

It is something hard to explain, something you have to experience by yourself, this is not the typical 3D movie you expect to see, this time you will wear polarized glasses that will not only create the 3D effect, but will make the entire screen have depth, as if you are sitting in front of a theatre, or looking through a window, watching the entire magnificent world of Pandora, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere, with foreground and background, with all its textures and details, with vivid colors from a totally new perspective.

Cameron has mentioned in interviews that this movie is not an effects bombardment, it has a story, characters and a deep universal message at the end.

The movie is about Jake, a former Marine who has to move with a wheelchair following a war on Earth. He then was selected to take part in AVATAR, his mind transported to a Na’vi body to be sent to Pandora, a planet inhabited by beautiful creatures, which humans decided to make it savagely their own. Jake falls in love with a Na’vi and has to decide where his allegiances lie in a battle which will decide the fate of those two planets.

The good news is that the movie will be shown worldwide on the 18th of December this year, the bad news is that Egypt till now did not prepare itself for a film like that, having only 4 months – if they have the plan - to build a qualified cinema capable of screening this special 3D movie.

Do you remember the time of silent black and white movies, the movies with sound, the movies with colors, and the movies of today that are filled with special effects, the 2D animation and the 3D invasion, well AVATAR will be a revolution, a new step in cinema, and a reason for Cameron to climb the peak of the Himalaya mountain and shout for a second time “I am the King of the World”.

U2 No Line On The Horizon

The question should be: “Is U2 today still the best band in the world?”
I am eager to know what critics will say after listening to their new album “No Line On The Horizon”.

I think that the song “No Line On The Horizon” was just meant to be an intro song for U2’s twelfth album…light and easy going…a kind of song that prepares you for the whole mood of that new release…marked by the strange way of stretching the word “hora- ye- zen”…at times it felt an intro that went too long…and at the end it felt that it was abruptly cut from its neck…why...due to the fact that the melody took us to a direction we thought it will lead...tata...surprise!

Confident drums…edgy guitar in the background…clapping with a catchy melody…this is U2 we know…”Magnificant”…one of the best songs in this album…reminds me of “New Year’s Day”…especially when Bono sings the line “Justify, till we die, you and I , will magnify “…and when the weeping cello-like sound comes around minute 4:00 which gives the song a good eerie feel.

The band went back to the safe side with “Moment of Surrender”…adding strange stereo clipping…and Bono’s voice getting dirtier…pushing it to the limit…asking “if love believes in me”…with chorus singing along…and beautiful chilly Santana-like electric guitar playing…this is indeed the “One” for “No Line On The Horizon”.

“Unkown Caller” is definitely a winner track for upcoming concerts…I can imagine the crowd shouting with U2 ”GO, SHOUT IT OUT, RISE UP ….OH OH OH OH”…”RESTART , AND REBOOT YOURSELF, YOU’R FREE TO GO , PASSWORD, YOU , ENTER HERE, RIGHT NOW , YOU KNOW YOUR NAME , SO PUNCH IT IN , SHUSH NOW “…a masterfully written and produced track that shows how unique U2 are…still fresh and young.

U2ish song…so can the song ”I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Crazy Tonight” be called…very 'American'…ballad rock…romantic…nice to hear…but normal…nothing new from U2.

And then comes one of the worst songs of the Album…”Get On Your Boots”… a wrong track that went to become a disaster after being released as their first single…boring rhythm deep words are not enough to make a track a hit…a track that underlines the fact that men have done enough catastrophe all around the world…wars…hunger…etc etc…so now is the time to give the power to women…the only moment the track gets interesting is when Bono repeats “Let me in the sound , sound “…yeah man…rock me…sorry Bono…this is a mistake…a flop…a track that is like a knife of distraction from the main theme of the album.

And the boredom continues with “Stand Up Comedy”…this is a filling song folk…I don’t have anything to say here than asking where Eno was at the time they recorded this rubbish.

“FEZ-Being Born” started mysterious with Bono again humming “Let me in the sound”…atmospheric pads…trance synths…strange composition…I felt they wanted to be more experimental like they did at the time of “Pop”…remember “MOFO”…but unfortunately failed to deliver something with this song…maybe because the melody was kind of weird…the third misstep in a row.

Thank god there was the beautiful sweet “White As Snow”…a classic…slow guitar playing…wonderful lyrics…excellent singing…horn-like sound…reminds me of the 70’s…where is my girlfriend to dance with her…two thumbs up U2.

“Breathe” was the track that should have been picked for the single…strong electric guitar alongside hyperactive piano…The Edge shining with his playing of perfection…not my favorite…but the best definition of U2 post 80’s and 90’s…to be honest...now I was desperately searching for a track like “Beautiful Day” or “Electrical Storm”.

The final track “Cedars Of Lebanon “ is an example how good Bono can really sing…with his warm mesmerizing voice…experimenting again here and there with mastering effects…Brian Eno’s touch can also be felt in the second half of the song…it is an ok song…yeah…ok.

I was a faithful fan of U2 since “The Unforgettable Fire”…and still am…”No Line On The Horizon” is good…but not great…I think I have put too much anticipation…too much hope that this could be their best album ever…knowing that they did not produce anything since 2004…well...the problem does not exist in U2 as a band…the problem exists because they did not change the producer…Brian Eno was so busy lately being responsible for famous bands like U2 and Coldplay…and to take your band to the next level you need a new environment…a new air...and a new brain…for creation and innovation.

For the first time since "The Joshua Tree"...one can notice they had so much fun in doing this solid record...and this is enough.

Am I so disappointed…not really…I saw that coming after seeing them perform in The Grammy…at least I have 4 good new tracks from my favorite old fella of U2 to enjoy.

Burial

You look different!

Listening to “In McDonalds” in Mc Donald’s…at 2:24 AM…while looking through the sound-proof window at the empty streets of foggy Cairo…is an experience everyone reading this should have. People…this haunting voice can’t be forgotten.

Never was this connection between place, time and music as obvious as with Burial…an ex-anonymous musician who brilliantly created a new genre that can be called dubstep-soul…which digs deep into your soul…bringing out all the melancholy and sadness from inside…and transforming you into a creature out of existence.

I have been listening to Burial for almost two years now and every time I hear "Dog Shelter" and minute 3:33 of the track “Shell of Light” my eyes become congested with tears.

I did not know who this artist was or where he lives…if he is a man…a woman…black or white…young or old…a condition that has created indeed this mysterious atmosphere for his music.

Anonymity has limits...well...he lately revealed his identity and picture to the worldwide fans on his myspace page…after gaining so much respect from critics all over the world…I think he couldn’t handle it anymore…being famous but not being able to celebrate.

Sometimes I feel that way…as a musician…and as a blogger.

I don’t want to describe Burial’s music…I want you to take this music with you wherever and whenever you go…in the subway…along the Nile shore…over the 6th October bridge at midnight…or over the Moqatam Mountain at sunrise…and tell me what you feel.

Here are some songs I highly recommend.

“In McDonalds”
“U hurt me”
“Archangel”
“Untrue”
“Dog Shelter”
“Distant Lights”
“Night Bus”
“Prayer”
“Endorphin”
“Shell of Light”
“Near Dark”
“UK”

You feel inside?

Alexander Supertramp

I want to be a modified version of Christopher McCandless…and I hopefully will start my own journey in my magic bus…really soon isa…leaving my family behind…my “supposed to be” friends…and the land I was born in…Egypt. Yesterday alone in Nile City I saw the movie I was waiting for...a movie that filled all my eyes with tears…a movie that refilled my heart with hope…and a movie that reemphasized the fact that cinema changes lives. I’m not going to talk about the movie…I just want to say that this is the best feature Sean Penn has ever directed…just looking to the beautiful long shots of nature one can immediately realize the poetry hidden behind it and the art of cinematography Penn has obviously gained after the long editing time he spent with the legendary director Terrence Malick. Every song was put exactly in its right place…with the lyrics giving more depth and softness to the storytelling process…every actor gave his best- especially Hirsh and Hoolbrook- to portray the real events that Krakauer has captured in his non-fictional best selling book...and every scene was an alarm for me to restart and think about the way I want my life to look like. Through all the chapters of Chris’s adventures you are totally sucked into his controversial ideas…ideas that can’t come from a well educated and civilized man…yet the director succeeded in letting us unconsciously sympathize with this “idiot” hero…not because of his courage or rebellion…but because of the truth and purity that lies beneath all his actions. Oprah’s show about the film is also a must see to get the whole picture of Chris’s life from people who knew Chris in real life…and to fully understand why he did this. “Into the Wild” is simply a quiet gentle protest against the world of today...the world of destruction, poverty, materialism, religion, control, unfairness, power and organizations. You was not born as a slave in the cages of communities…you was born free…to live in the wild world. There is one last chance for people in Egypt to go and see this movie that will be shown one last time during the Cairo International Film Festival this week – and for god sake leave this bad habit that can only be seen in citizens from developing countries…people that say yeah ok I’ll download it from the internet and see it on my PC – cinema is an experience ya gama3a…and this movie in particular is a beautiful experience that you need to have inside a theatre…and I am sure you will then come out of the dark room to the “city of blinding lights” wondering how and why you are still living in this damn society.

The Reader

My relationship with Bernhard Schlink's "The Reader" started 3 years after the book was first published...I still remember the day when the teacher introduced this book in the classroom...we pupils were all so eager to know what it is all about...she refused to tell us anything about it and gave each one of us a copy and one week to finish reading it...well I finished it in 2 days...and what an experience it was...it was a wholly new territory for me...and there was a specific chapter in this novel that sums the same feeling I had towards my teacher...I loved my teacher...and my teacher loved me...there was a sort of chemistry between the two of us...nobody in the class knew about it...she was always asking me about my opinion after the lectures...and about new creative ways of education...she even gave me the opportunity to teach my fellow classmates...and each time I received the marks of my exams I had the chance to discuss it with her...she liked the way I argued with her...she always liked my arguments in the class...I could see the appreciation in her beautiful face...this relationship lasted for maybe 2 years or more...she invited me to her house one night in Agouza...when I entered her apartment I was surprised to see the whole room lightened by candles...it gave me this sweet warm feeling inside...especially the Jazz music I was hearing in the background...what a night to remember...I saw the picture of her boyfriend...I was so angry inside...I envied him...because he is older than me...my graduation exam was about this novel...I was fully prepared...it was one of the longest exams I have ever had in my whole life...ten hours in a room...the novel in my hand...more than 50 empty papers on my desk...sandwiches...a bottle of water...and one question...it was about a chapter in the book when the storyteller Michael meets his father...I don't exactly remember the question...but I had to analyze and interpret the whole chapter...I really enjoyed studying this book...and I learned a lot from it...but I was sad that my teacher was leaving Egypt to return to her home country...the last time I met her was in Marriott hotel in Zamalek...we had a nice chat with Earl Grey tea and this was when the only and last time she gave me a kiss on my cheek.I don't want to remember all the problems I had back then because of this...El-Azhar wanted to ban this novel from our school...and someone even wanted to file a lawsuit against our director because he let this novel to be taught in our classrooms...how could a novel like that enter a school in Cairo...a city that cherishes tradition and religion...parents were actually confused...some were open minded and thought it was a step in the progress of enlightenment...others thought it was a plan from foreign organizations to destroy the morality of our children...my classmates were also unhappy with the special way my teacher was treating me...some guessed there was something between the two of us...and the rumor spread in the school...I didn't care...I was happy.5 years ago...when I was staying in a city in Europe for some work...a square in down town seemed familiar...I was sure I have seen it before…somewhere in my life...and then I remembered that this place was similar to the original cover art of the novel...and one day while having dinner with some old friends there...one girl asked me about my favorite books...I mentioned "The Reader"...and then she asked me if I knew that this city is the location where the real events of the novel took place...I could not believe it...I did not know that it was based on true events…I returned to the square...and walked down the street...and revived all the chapters in the book...in details...it was a wonderful experience...it took the story to a new level...it captured my heart...and I missed my teacher so much. This year I was thrilled to know that a feature film of the novel was being made...after it gained so much fame from being in Oprah's Book Club list…and I was so happy to know that one of my favorite directors will do this adventures step...Stephen Daldry who also directed "Billy Elliot" and "The Hours"...and I couldn't be more happy after seeing one of the most talented young actresses in Hollywood taking the leading role...Kate Winslet will play Hanna...replacing pregnant Nicole Kidman…but I was a little worried after hearing that some people who saw a test screening of the unfinished film were confused with the end result...many thought the movie was disjointed...others could not know what the film wanted to say...well...I have to wait till December to know...and I hope I will not be disappointed...because somehow I feel this novel has become part of me...and I feel responsible to make this upcoming film win an Oscar.

Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth Class

Sitting in a theatre filled with kids chatting is a nightmare that was defeated by the first minute of an animated movie that was expected to be made for children and turned out to be an intriguing memorable memorandum for all the man kind.

Pixar's WALL.E crossed the boarders of impossibility and created a masterpiece that one can confidently put in the list for the best movies ever made...it is not a story to be told…it is a wondrous journey to the paradise of soul and mind that has to be taken.

After watching one hour of this post-animation movie and realizing that you have forgotten the fact that there was no dialogue in this film…one should immediately consider this a modern Shakespearian poem without words…a Kubrick's recycled "2001" merged with expressionism of emotions from the "Hello,Dolly!" days…a Chaplin's silent satire of human grotesque floating in Axiom's space.

The "Finding Nemo" director succeeded in replacing the lifeless objects mythology with the majestic glory of heartbreaking robotic 'Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator' love…creating visually mesmerizing worlds with spectacular sound effects that need a crystal clear cinema screen to be enjoyed…sensitive ears to be experienced…and a mind that can understand all the existential, philosophical, political and environmental messages hidden inside.

We just needed this apocalyptic experiment to open our eyes to the hell of technology we are living in and to guide our children to a better and smart way of invention…aiming to keep this planet alive.

I am sorry…but you need to watch WALL.E first to make this post comprehensible.

Coldplay Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends

I just finished listening to the newest Coldplay album and I don’t have words to describe my feelings right now...I only can say 'celebrating 10 years Coldplay'…celebrating life…viva la vida oleah.

The Brian Eno Effect starts right from the first seconds of Coldplay's highly anticipated new album "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends"…with ambient sounds that introduce you to a magical and mysterious world , followed by guitar playing in a catchy U2-y way…aiming to guide you to a new era of coldplaying… accompanied by drums and a male chorus singing oh oh oh and ends abruptly which honestly was a surprise for me…because during "Life in Technicolor" I was waiting for Chris to sing…however it is just an intro song people…an optimistic start.

The first 'real' song is "Cemeteries of London", a dark yet beautifully crafted piece of music that hunts you from the start with ghosts and demons…singing la la la la la weaayh…amazing guitar playing…Spanish mood…with a smooth weird piano finishing this adventurous journey…hey…the band are not afraid to experiment here…cool isn't it.

And then…a big surprise…clapping of hands…heavy beats…and-just because I'm losing…doesn't mean I am lost-this emphasizes the fact that the band wants to play it safe…simple…and easy…and "Lost!" is indeed a great song…I had to sing with you dude…I am really thrilled with this new experience…and the electric guitar was my hero…and so are you.

I remember Martin & Co once saying that you have to hear "42" before you die…I don't know if they are right…the song starts slowly with a normal piano melody and then it turns to an absolutely other direction…'you didn't get to heaven but you made it close'…and then to a third destination…hmmm wow…and then it turns again to the quiet start…a revolutionary new style and a unique composition of a track…it is a rollercoaster you should ride…I think this is going to be the critically acclaimed song in this album…but I don’t know why I did not like it that much…maybe it will grow with me after a while.

"Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love" is beautifully strange…transfers you to another place…and to another dimension…especially in the middle of the song when there is no one singing…just ambient territory and courageous instruments fighting.

Drunken violin…mellow atmosphere…Chris Martin singing with a very deep voice…and again a sexy violin playing for the first time an Arabic melody in a Coldplay album…wait a second…is this Coldplay…did they change their genre…you have to ask yourself this question after hearing "Yes".

"Viva la Vida" is for sure a winner…thanks for the vivid violin, the church-like environment and the electronic touches playing in the background.

"Violent Hill" stands strong on the credit side with its emotionally last minute piano and Martin's singing "I took my love down to Violent Hill…there we sat in the snow"…should I cry…yeah you should.

The energetic "Strawberry Swing" reminds me of Africa…I adore this song…bravo…with strings crawling behind my ears…so sweet...I had to scream and say…people…I am happy…this is a new day…a peaceful day...and I am searching for the perfect day…I want to go back to the days of Love & Peace…hippi…yippi…yeay.

After that comes one of my favorite songs "Death and All His Friends"…it starts so slowly…softly…sleepy…and after two minutes or so a heavy guitar wakes me up euphorically…and then the song turns to a totally unexpected direction…felt by the change of rhythm and tone…and the chilling chorus saying "no I don't wanna follow death and all his friends".

The lyrics are deeper and intriguing….religious we can say.
Even the hidden bonus acoustic tracks are superb…plus "Chinese Sleep Chant" and " The Escapist"…so what else can I say…yeah…and Chris vocals never sounded so great...and one last thing...bad news or not...but there is no Coldformula aka (Clocks/Speed of Sound anthem)

This album will surely be a hit…I don't know if this should be considered one of their best achievements to date...but this is NeoColdplay…and if this album was made by an unknown band…it will not do the same buzz Coldplay are doing around the world…and this is not what I am expecting…in the days to come.

Somber Days

When I have something good happening in my life…something that makes me happy…I don't know why I always expect to experience something horrible coming soon...right after it…something that will make me sad…it is not the matter of me being pessimistic…it is how I now understand the process of my life…and come on , it is logic isn't it…for example if you have your birthday one day…the next day you likely may fail in your exam…or if you did not fail you will probably have a fight with a dear friend…or any bad thing might happen to you

When I look at major events in my life…I see how I was happy when I graduated from high school…and then I was sad when my grandfather died…and then I met my ex girlfriend…and then I lost my ex girlfriend…and then I hated my college…and then I found my passion in directing independent films…and then I had a terrible car accident…and so on…and elhamdullellah for the time being I am feeling all right…I mean nothing really disastrous happened in my life from a long time ago…masha2allah…you know when you feel stability in your life…I mean you see your life going in a monotonous fashion…what happened yesterday happens today…but unfortunately I am living in fear now…though I know I should live the momentum of joy rather than wasting the good time in deep thinking…but maybe because I am anticipating something dramatic that will/is going to/may occur in my life soon…I can't fully taste happiness…you know…life is not a fairy tail…life is not a Cinderella story…she meets her prince and have kids and live happily forever after…when you look at the philosophy of life you will see that it begins with something beautiful…the birth of you…and ends with something terrible…the death of you…and guess all the things that are going to happen in between
I was thinking about this issue while watching
Iñárritu's
"21 Grams" with my dear friend F8 in the train…I will not talk about the movie because it is a fantastic movie with superb performances by Sean Penn, Naomi Watts and Benicio Del Toro...and has an important message that everyone should understand…but I somehow mediated in some images shown from time to time in the film that may seem unimportant to the viewer…maybe because this was my seventh time to watch this movie...and by the way I have to say that the editing style was not the usual way you see a movie…I mean you see random scenes…not put in a chronological or logical manner…the whole film is like a puzzle...you see a scene in the past…then one happening in the future…then one in the present…and so on…reminds me of "Memento" and "Run Lola Run"…and you get the full picture of the story at the end
So there was an image of birds flying at sunrise…and a scene showing an empty room that was a moment before filled with people partying…and a desert with a cloudy sky…and a scene of leaves falling from the sky at sunset that looks like the first scene of the birds flying but to the opposite direction…and an empty swimming pool in a rainy day…these images were shown at specific moments during the film…and they had symbolic meanings to me
Birds flying at sunrise is for me freedom, activity and joy in the beginning of life…and the empty room is for sure empty because when people finish the party they then go home…so it is the natural consequence of enjoying a part of your life…the party has to have an end…the self-satisfaction and the fulfillment of someone's dreams has an end when reaching his goals…and the desert with a cloudy sky is like the time I am living nowadays…the sun is shining…the weather is great…the landscape is beautiful…yet there are some clouds in the sky…and you don't know what is coming next…I am anticipating something...leaves falling from the tree at sunset is the dying process of any living being…it is sadness and grief…it is the change that has to occur in everyone's life…and finally the last scene in the movie which is an empty swimming pool…no water inside…it is like an empty body…a dead body…with no soul inside...and the rainy day is the hope…that we always try to believe in…the hope of a better tomorrow…the hope of the rain to fill the swimming pool with waterI recommend everyone to see this movie…not to know the cliché theme of 'hey dude…live your life to the fullest and enjoy every moment in it'…but to know that life is somehow a timeline of random chaotic events…they don’t have to have a meaning…but they sure have a motto…happiness comes after sadness…and sadness comes after happiness…and grief somehow overshadows joy...and we pass this around…to survive life and to understanding this paradox is a lot to cope with…and this is what I am trying to do right now

HIM

His infernal majesty is back…and with a vengeance.
Sometimes I wish I could convince my grandma that is sitting on her sofa and repeatedly crazy listening to Sami Yusuf's "Asmaullah" & "Ya Ommi" and let her listen to "Venus Doom"…yeah…from the start to the end…giving her a unique opportunity to experience gothic opera…and to pass through the ninth gate of hell.
This experiment will prove that you do not have to wear all in black, pierce your lips and let your hair grow to enjoy love metal.

The days of the Baroon Castle…the days of death metal in Cairo…this is now history…isn't it?

I miss these days.

When we talk about a good album…we talk about discovering special moments in each song of the whole album…and fortunately this is the case with the newly released album of HIM.
Of course it is very close to their greater album " Razorblade Romance"…with their masterful and still their best song to date " Join me" ( in Death )…but at least it is not a big disappointment like the cheesy James Blunt's "All the lost souls".

The epic 10 minutes "Sleepwalking Past Hope" is one of my favorite songs…it is a journey…a journey in soul's pain…and a journey through the professional work with music.

Beginning with a beautiful Chopin-piano-like melody…a much darker one than that played in the beginning of "The Sacrament"…followed by heavy electric guitar…your body will surely shiver when the moment comes…the moment when Ville says

In our hearts love keeps sweet-talking to despair

And goes on sleepwalking past hope
All is lost in this war
And all we can do is to wail and weep to the saddest song
Sleepwalking past hope

…with a sensational keyboard sound in the background that have an effect of acupuncture entering your body.
After 5 minutes I hear for the first time Valo's voice going so deep like falling in a dark hole

I gave up long ago
Painting love with crimson flow
Ran out of blood and hope
So I paint you no more

…even deeper than the time when he sang " Bitter Sweet" with The Rasmus and Apocalyptica…which worked here excellently opposite the highly pitched background sound of xylophone.
And then comes the peak of this song…the marvelous words that say

My hell begins from the 10th and descends to the circle
Six hundred threescore and six
And from there I crawl
beneath Lucifer's claws
just for one last kiss

Ville Valo surprised me with the use of paradox…when he goes up and up with his voice to his highest level - after he has done the same with his deepest voice-screaming out loud ( there is no hooooooooope )…before finishing this drama song with Bono's gasping style that was used in "Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me, Kill Me".

The mishmash of different musical instruments closing the song including the African drums and the alternative use of keyboard merge strangely in harmony.

"Cyanide Sun" reminds me of my early days with the devil…when we used to sit face to face in a room filled with marijuana smoke and in an atmosphere of ecstatic mood that forced me to swing my head in all directions…in euphoric pleasure due to the magical effect of "The Funeral of Love".
I don't know why…but it also reminds me of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters"…when I hear it in a backwards manner.

Transformer's "Passion's Killing Floor" is more metal than rock…with a nice electronic echo melting inside.
The haunting "The Kiss of Dawn" is more rock than metal…and it sounds more commercial than "Vampire Heart" from "Dark Light".
The Chorus in "Love in Cold Blood" emphasizes the chilling feelings you get when the lead singer pats the song with

Darling take me home
To the castle of stones and bones
Sing me this song to remind me where I belong
In your arms

In this album I miss a lot the elegant and catchy use of keyboard and strings that was (and still is) a trademark of this genre…and used previously in their songs like "In Joy and Sorrow".
But I was happy with the return of Lindström's guitar power...in "Dead Lover's Lane" and "Bleed Well".
The songs require more than a couple listens to fully digest it…but I am sure Bam Margera ate them all already.

One can't believe that metal and particularly love metal still live in our nowadays pop-plastic era…nevertheless I could not help feeling worried…but with the still existing and growing underworld metal fans…and the talented efforts and success of His Infernal Majesty…the heartagram will shine…and for a long time.
